of bilingual performances

by contemporary Arab women poets

SHAEIRAT PROJECT (مشروع الشاعرات / shaierat = poetesses) ) is a collective art project seeking to promote, produce and stage Arab poetry performances by poetesses and poets themselves in the Arab world and globally.  In addition to mixing (or not) the poetesses and poets stage presence and voices with other artistic mediums such as music, theatre and video, SHAEIRAT PROJECT intends to present performances bilingually.

SHAEIRAT PROJECT was inaugurated at Festival d’Avignon 2022 with a program of 4 performances by Soukaina Habiballah, Rasha Omran, Carol Sansour and Asmaa Azaizeh, in collaboration with Henri Jules Julien.

SHAEIRAT PROJECT is due to tour Europe in March to May 2023, and is looking to do the same in North Africa (Egypt and Morocco) through developing the first festivals of performing Arabic poetry in the fall of 2023.

For that purpose, SHAEIRAT PROJECT is collaborating with Arab poetesses, intenational artists and musicians to broaden its initial program of 4 poetesses, and is aspiring to establish a regional and international network of partners who are open to hosting those performances.

SHAEIRAT PROJECT is currently collectively run by Habiballah, Sansour & Julien.
